x. Heat of the Night

Greetings Ocarina! Everyone, please stay hydrated or at least make sure you're drinking enough water in this heat. If you do go outside, make sure to wear SUNSCREEN!!!! Today will be a short blog post with random food photos that I want to share with you all.

Few months ago, I was craving decent Japanese cuisine and luckily, there is a fancy-ish Japanese restaurant close by my apartment. Normally, you need to make a reservation to this place, but we decided to test our luck by doing walk-in. They actually got seats at the bar and we didn't need to wait long o((*^▽^*))o

I ordered this for myself and it was lovely. I love that they added a bunch of grapefruits in there and the salad actually tasted FRESH and CLEAN!! I often don't order salad from restaurants because I get stomach aches afterwards; however, if the salads are prepped at a high quality restaurant, then I will gamble and see how it goes. I also really appreciate that the chef set the salad dressing on the side, I don't like my salad all drenched and soggy.

Sas ordered this but he let me nibbled on one of his cutlet. It was SO good!! He didn't like the sauce though, and being a huge black sesame lover, I used the sauce for him. ( ´ ▽ ` )b Hey, the black sesame tonkatsu sauce worked nicely with my sashimi.

They also had a special menu that evening and there were two things that caught my eyes. They were serving wagyu beef nigiri and hokkaido uni!!! Of course, the price tag on those two were NOT cheap!!! I was debating whether I should order them or not, but Sas told me to get it (because he's paying for it anyway) ... ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ HUEHUEHUEEEEE yum yum in my belly.

As I have complained before about Google Maps showing overrated cafes, I used my CSI zooming skills on the map, and I found a hidden gem nearby my area. It's tucked into an industrial area, but if you do look them up on Google, it has over 100+ reviews. Why it never showed up on Google Maps when I type in "cafes near me" remains a mystery.

Anyway, this cafe is adorable and it have some Mexican style cuisine. They also incorporate that into their brunch menus (while also serving your basic ones). I can tell you that British Columbia will never have authentic Mexican cuisine, and if we want that, we have to cross the border. I'm not entirely sure how authentic the Mexican food is in this cafe, but I've seen the chef and he was singing along to Spanish music... LMAO but that's just my observation.

I also love how this cafe supports small local businesses and they have a wall dedicated in selling their products (°◡°♡)

Lately, I've been noticing that the brown sugar latte had been popping up here and there. I'm not sure if it's because the brown sugar milk teas had been doing well in every single bubble tea shop, but I have to say, I might prefer it in a latte.

Sas ordered a quesadilla, I want to say he ordered a specific pork or beef one. It's supposed to be like pulled pork but Mexican style. Here's me being basic that day, I ordered an avocado toast... but it's more like delicious guacamole toast??? The guacamole was very creamy and filling ( ´ ∀ `)ノ~ ♡

And of course, I had to come back again to try other things on their menu. Well, aside from ordering their brown sugar latte again, I ordered one of their benedicts. I wanted to try their Mexican infused dishes, so I went with the birria beef. This was really good, and next time I go down South, I would like to try birria in a Mexican restaurant.

The last dish was my dinner from a very cute Korean restaurant nearby my area. I didn't bother with Sas' dish because it was Korean fried chicken LOL I enjoyed this dish but there was a LOT of noodles. It was also perfect for the warm weather because this is a cold noodle dish. But I have to say ... I think you want to eat in one sitting. I packed the leftovers because I didn't want to waste it, but it just wasn't that good anymore the next day.

That's it for now, Cucco! Until next blog post,
